Spring Fashion Ideas - Hair Lounge Brielle, NJ

It looks like we’ve managed to sneak out with a fairly mild winter and finally, spring has sprung!! Spring and fall are two transitional seasons where it’s often hard figuring out what to wear. Most days the weather in the morning differs from the afternoon, it gets too hot, too windy, too rainy, or too chilly. Luckily, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite fashion ideas to wear for spring that are equally as cute as they are comfortable! This outfit here is going to be my inspiration for the rest of the blog. I’m going to break it down piece by piece so you can stock up on each of the basics.

1. Colored Jeans

Colored Jeans - Le Palais Brielle NJ

Much to my surprise, a lot of women think for some strange reason that they can’t pull off colored jeans. If this applies to you, I want you to know that is a crazy myth, and I need you to rid that voice from your mind! Colored jeans are so fun any time in the year. Honestly, I have 5 or 6 pairs. If I’m not in the salon, I’m likely wearing something colorful, I can’t get enough of them!!

2. Light Scarf

Light Scarf - Le Palais Hair Salon Brielle, NJ

I love a good light scarf, so much so, that I’ve got an entire drawer full. They come in so many colors, and they’re always inexpensive enough. Target and Old Navy are two of my favorite places to haul a few. I say light because they’re more for fashion than they are to keep warm! Whether your style is stripes, polka dots, floral, or paisley, there’s sure to be a scarf you’ll love.

3. Floral Flats

Floral Flats - Salon Brielle, NJ

Just like the scarf, these are the best wardrobe staples. Depending on whether they have a dark or lighter background, you could technically wear floral flats all year round. They’re the perfect addition to any outfit to add a pop of color! As you probably already know, we wear all black at Le Palais. Floral flats are one of my favorite ways to brighten up a black wardrobe, so I don’t feel like I’m covered in black from head to toe, literally!

4. Anorak Jacket

Anorak Jacket - Le Palais Hair Lounge Brielle, NJ

I absolutely love these jackets!! They come in a variety of colors; I happen to have 2 of them myself: khaki and army green. This is the best for spring and fall because they’re light enough so that you don’t get warm but will also keep a chill away if it gets a little windy out. Anorak jackets are becoming more and more popular. I’m seeing them in magazines and on Pinterest all the time! Have you seen the vests too?? They’re cute too for when it’s really warm out!

5. Oversized Crossbody

Oversized Crossbody - Beuaty Tips Brielle, NJ

Crossbodies are the best for when you’re on the go! They wrap right around you so your hands are totally free. It’s important to get an oversized one, but not too big. Women like myself have this problem where the more room you have in your bag, the more things you’ll find to put inside!

How to Make Your Curls Last Longer

How to Make Your Curls Last Longer-Brielle, NJ

Do you know what’s better than beautiful, bouncy curls? Beautiful and bouncy curls that last all day long! Well you’re in luck because today I’m sharing 5 tips on how to make this dream a reality!

1. It’s All in the Prep

When you take time in your prep, it cuts your styling time in half! When you are cursed with thin hair, like myself, curls can seem impossible. My whole world changed when I was introduced to Bumble and bumble’s Surf family! The shampoo and conditioner give my hair just the right amount of grit and volume so that my curls are able to hold on! There is also so much importance in using a primer every day! Bumble and bumble make 3 different kinds, Prep, Tonic, and HIO. Each for a different type of hair texture; thin virgin hair, normal to dry hair, and coarse curly hair (respectively). Primers will even your hair’s porosity and make curling even easier, they also have the magic power of revitalizing your hair the next day. Simply spray wherever necessary, blow dry, and re-curl the areas and your hair will be looking fresher than before!

2. Using the Right Size Barrel

This one seems like an obvious one, but it’s really not! A huge culprit to why your curls might not be holding is the fact that you might be using the wrong barrel size! Surprisingly enough, you’re better off going smaller than too big! The tighter the curl, the better chance it has to hold. One of my favorite tricks that I always tell my prom girls, brides, and bridesmaids is to go with a tight curl, spray it really well, then mess it all up and comb the curls out with your fingers!

3. The Proper Products

This goes back to what I mentioned in tip number one. When you use the proper products on your hair, you can do anything you want to with your hair! As I mentioned, my thin hair requires as much texture as I can get. That’s not to say everyone’s hair does though. Finding out which products work best for you will open up your world to whole new possibilities on what you can do. Ask your stylist and listen to their advice on what you should be using.

4. Let Them Cool

Want to know the secret to good curls? Letting them cool!!! So many women are mistaken, thinking that the hotter the curling iron, the better the curls. This is actually a myth. To cause the least amount of damage, you should be using the lowest heat setting with any hot tool. Not only that but it’s actually while your hair is cooling when the curl is setting itself! That’s why when we’ve finished your blowout, we’ll often do a quick shot of cool air all over! When you’re curling your hair, try not to fuss with them so much while they’re still warm. Instead, try pinning a few signature curls (ones around your face) up while they cool! Once you’re all finished, remove pins and tousle your hair up.

5. Your Hair Still Won’t Curl?

I’m sorry girly but if your hair still won’t curl that means it’s screaming SOS! Damaged hair will not curl, end of the story. Whether your hair is over processed or simply has a ton of split ends, it’s probably time for a trim. Haircuts don’t have to be scary!! At Le Palais, we pride ourselves on giving our clients exactly what they want, and if you tell any of us that you don’t want to cut too much hair off, we will listen to you! I promise your hair will thank you after a good, healthy trim.

Split Personality Hair

Split Personality Hair

There’s an issue that we as hairstylists come across almost every day. We’ve coined the name “split personality hair” – it’s when you struggle with oily roots and dry ends. There are many reasons why this may happen. Most commonly it’s due to the shampoo buildup on the scalp and brittle ends not being conditioned enough. Luckily, there are a couple of tricks we’ve learned throughout the years and here is where you can find your solution!

1. Primer Masque

Primer Masque

What do you do when you get something on your clothes? You apply a stain remover directly to the problem area before throwing it into the laundry!! Well, your hair is the same way! Did you know there is such a thing as a pre-shampoo masque?! Bumble and bumble makes an amazing pre-shampoo masque that we highly recommend at the salon. It’s called Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Balm to Oil Pre-Shampoo Masque. You apply it to your hair while it’s dry, inside the container it looks and feels like a thick balm, but once it touches your hair, it turns to oil. It will melt like butter in your hands and on your hair!

2. Two-Minute Brush Out

Two-Minute Brush Out

This is exactly what it sounds like! Before hopping into the shower, brush your hair out for two minutes straight! If you think about it, we normally do this to you as stylists. We do this for two reasons: 1. There are no knots or tangles and 2. To even the canvas! When you brush your hair, you’re breaking up the residue and oils on your scalp and evenly distributing it throughout your hair. Essentially you’re giving yourself an oil treatment with all your own natural oils! Pretty crazy and will definitely help moisturize those unruly ends.

3. Shampoo and Conditioner Cocktail

Shampoo and Conditioner Cocktail

This is something I’m always encouraging my clients to do! When your hair has multiple problems to address – in this case, an oily scalp and dry ends – why not mix and match your shampoo and conditioner?! Choose a shampoo that will target your oily roots, one that is lightweight and designed to add volume! For the conditioner, choose something that’s extra hydrating. When you’re in the shower, give your roots extra attention with your shampoo and don’t fuss with the ends as much. Then as you move onto the conditioner, grab your hair as if you’re putting it up in a ponytail, focusing on all the hair from your ears down.

4. Dry Conditioner

Dry Conditioner

Sounds weird I know, but it’s a real thing. I promise! Bumble and bumble happens to make another product in the Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil line, called UV Protective Dry Oil Finishing Spray. This stuff is amazing. It’s the best after updos to add a whole bunch of shine, and it’s also great after you curl your hair. Spraying it on will give your hair moisture and a super soft touch!

5. Dandruff Shampoo

Dandruff Shampoo

Dry shampoo obsessions can lead to a dry, itchy scalp. I hate to admit it, but I am a sad dry shampoo addict myself. Using too much dry shampoo will cause a residual buildup on your scalp, and you’ll have to scrub even harder when you do shampoo your hair. I’m not saying to throw all your dry shampoo away, but maybe try using it more sparingly. Put your hair up on the third day rather than using a ton of powder!!

Our Favorite Oscar’s Looks - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Our Favorite Oscar’s Looks Let’s be real, the reason we all tune into the Oscars is for that fashion! Although I shared my favorite looks on Instagram and Facebook, I figured I’d indulge in my top favorite and talk about a few things we can do to achieve the same look. I mean, minus the hundred thousand dollar dresses, of course.

1. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

One word: Glitter!!! I have to admit; I’m a total sucker for anything sparkly. Why can’t we all just wear glitter eye shadow every day?! If you haven’t tried the elf products, you totally should! I got their Rose Gold palette a couple of weeks ago, and I fell in love!! It has all the same glittery goodness that Lady Gaga rocked on the red carpet.

2. Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae

She’s a natural beauty, and I can’t get over it. I had to go with Janelle Monae for so many reasons. Let’s start with the cutie pixie she’s gotten going on. Headband? So Grecian and I love it!! Her makeup is totally understated, going with all neutral tones, including her nude lip, which I love, and her earrings are the perfect statement piece. All of those black and gold tones really compliment Janelle’s perfect skin tone.

3. Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson

Talk about a killer pixie!! I mean, she got the shaved sides/back and everything! Even more than that, I love this picture of her because you can see the way she’s rocking it!! Her pale skin with pinky undertones is a perfect match for this pink chiffon gown. Then they went above and beyond by bringing it out in her pink lips! I absolutely love this look.

4. Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts

All hail red heads everywhere. Ok if you have naturally red hair, but it’s not as vibrant as this, you need to come in and let us spruce it up! This red is the perfect shade!! Emma’s make up totally understated with a pop of red lips. I wish my lips looked like this good; they’re perfectly plump!

5. Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss

The hairstylist in me had to pick Karlie Kloss for those amazing Hollywood glam waves. She and Emma Roberts wore similar hair with both having one side tucked behind the ear. I love her twist on the red lip, using a more salmon color. I also can’t get away without mentioning that cheek highlight.

5 Healthy, Happy Choices

5 Healthy, Happy Choices

It’s been absolutely gorgeous out the last few weeks. It looks like we’re going to be lucky (knock on wood) and skate out of winter without any bad weather. I know I’m not the only one craving some sunshine. With the beginning of March brings hope for the spring!! Read on for some of my favorite ways to start being happier as we soon wave goodbye to winter.

1. Amp up Monday Make-Up Routine

Amp up Monday Make-Up Routine

Studies show that women feel the worst on Mondays. It’s no surprise why, the 1st day of the workweek seems daunting, and you just can’t wait until the weekend. Well, shake off those Monday blues and start feeling prettier!! Why not go more dramatic on your makeup? Make your eyes bigger and brighter by swinging your mascara wand towards your nose instead for a fun star burst effect (very Twiggy looking). And don’t be afraid to rock some red lips on Monday morning! It could become your new thing!!

2. Address Bothersome Cosmetic Issues

Address Bothersome Cosmetic Issues

One word – Botox. I know this B word can be a little scary to some of us, but it’s really not as bad as it sounds. Nobody wants to look like they’re surprised all the time! So as an alternative, request small dose treatments to soften any unwanted lines while still being able to move your face. Give it a try, there’s no shame whatsoever and hey, you might love it!!

3. Regular Facials

Regular Facials

The truth is none of us are probably getting as many facials as we should be. Estheticians recommend scheduling one facial every season because of all the changes that our skin goes through during the transitional weather. In the winter, we’re dry, summer; we’re oily. So before either one changes, getting a facial will really help to maintain the pH balance of our skin. Facials can improve your skin’s texture as well as unclog those nasty pores.

4. Stretch

Stretch

It seems pretty simple, right? Then why don’t we do it more?! Get your blood pumping from the moment you wake up in the morning! I’m always checking out Pinterest to get new ideas. One is to hop out of bed and do a couple of slow lunges. Not enough to make you work up a sweat or anything, just to jumpstart your day and get those muscles moving! My other favorite is to stand up straight and pull my arms over my head slowly and count to 10 about 10 times. I love this one because it gets my arms ready to hold a blow dryer for 8 hours!!

5. Drink More Water

Drink More Water

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again! We need to be drinking more water. Not only is it good for hydrating you and keeping you awake all day long, it can also help you eat less. Drinking water will trick your belly into thinking it’s fuller longer. Increasing your water by 1% will reduce your caloric intake up to 200 calories per day!! Water will also help to lower sugar, fat, sodium, and cholesterol. What more is there to think about??
