5 Toothbrush Beauty Hacks - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Call me crazy all you want but did you know how many more ways you can be using your toothbrush?! From now on, they’re not just for fresh breath in the morning!

1. Fly Aways

Fly aways - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Spray hairspray on an old toothbrush and use it tame that pesky fly away. Sometimes using a big comb can mess up your pony tail and cause a straight-up mess on the back. Using a tiny, soft toothbrush can do just the trick, without the lumps and bumps.

2. Unruly Brows

Use the toothbrush the same way as previously stated. Didn’t know you could use hairspray on your eyebrows? Why not?! It gives them hold they need, especially when you’ve been putting off your wax appointment! They won’t move out of place for the rest of the day!!

3. Hairdryer Vent

Hairdryer vent - Le Palais Hair Lounge

It’s so important to maintain your blow dryer. I mean they’re an expensive piece of equipment! Why wouldn’t you? Lint caught up in the back of your blow dryer will really take a toll on your motor. The lint causes the blow dryer to work harder sucking air in and blowing it back out. Use a toothbrush to de-lint the back of your dryer so it dries your hair faster.

4. Tease Your Hair

This little trick is a major life saver. It’s obvious that toothbrushes have been much softer bristles than teasing combs so it only makes sense that they’d be more gentle on your hair. Not only that but the boar bristles brushes are crazy expensive, you’re saving yourself a good $70!! Woo-hoo!

5. Nail Art

This one is so cool! Pour a couple of different color nail polishes out onto a paper plate. Give yourself a base coat of any color you wish – white, pink, black, blue, etc. Let your nails dry a bit then dip the toothbrush bristles into the nail polish, and splatter painted your nails!! It gives a really cool painter’s vibe. To get rid of all that rough texture, go over it with a coat or two of top coat.

Budget Beauty Finds

Budget Beauty Finds - Beauty Salon NJ

Let’s face it; we all know how expensive the beauty industry is. You may think to find the perfect makeup, you need to spend an arm and leg on all this name-brand junk. I’m actually here to share with you my favorite budgeted beauty finds. These can be found at Target or any other drug store for less than 10 bucks! I’m telling you, these are a steal.

1. Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder $5.99

Maybelline Fit Me Matte Poreless Powder - Le Palais Hair Lounge

I had to make this number one because it’s my absolute favorite product, and it’s actually what inspired this week’s blog entirely! Trust me, I’ve fallen through the trap that in order to get the perfect look. You’ve got to get all these fancy pallets that the celebrities are wearing, but I’m telling you, this one is a diamond in the rough!! I struggle with oily skin. I always have and probably always will. I hate when my face looks shiny, which usually starts happening about 2:00 o’clock every day, that was up until I found Maybelline’s matte powder! I mostly apply this all over my face but especially on my forehead and the sides of my nose where I’m the oiliest. I’m in love with the way it makes my skin look. You truly cannot see a single pore, and it stays matte all day long!

2. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel $7.46

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Ok, every girl loves a fresh gel manicure. It’s honestly one of the only things I like to spoil myself with. Unfortunately going every other week gets really, really expensive! Whenever I just don’t feel like I can budget it in that month, I whip out my Sally Hansen gel polish. It’s a simple 2 step manicure that does not require any fancy lights whatsoever. This is a duo so you are going to need their brand polish and top coat. Good news is they’re only about $8 each or $15 for a starter kit. It’s super cost effective, they last just as long, and you can use them over and over again!!

3. Connoisseurs Precious Jewellery Cleaner $4.99

So I know this isn’t necessarily a beauty find, but it really is one of my favorite items I keep on my dresser at all times. Being engaged and all, I like my ring looking super sparkly all the time. Realizing that I’d be considered crazy bringing it to the jewelers to have it cleaned every other day, I was gifted with this awesome jewelry cleaner!! Right before I hop into the shower in the morning, I plop my ring into the bubbly concoction and let it soak a few minutes, take it out, scrub it a little with a tooth brush, and it’s just as shiny as the day my fiancé proposed!

4. Neutrogena Makeup Removing Towlettes $4.49

Neutrogena Makeup Removing Towlettes - Le Palais Hair Lounge

I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but I cannot stress enough the importance of removing your makeup every night before bed!!! It’s so, so bad for your skin to sleep with all that junk layered on. Your pores aren’t breathing, and it’s causing your skin to react even worse than it really is. That’s why I love keeping a pack of Neutrogena’s make up wipes not only in my bathroom’s medicine cabinet but also in my nightstand. Keeping them close by my pillow, I know that whether it was a late night out, or even if I’m already comfy and too lazy to get up, I will definitely be taking my makeup off! They’re super, soft and gentle on sensitive skin so feel free to rub your eyes until there’s nothing left on the wipe! This is a true lifesaver.

5. Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt Soaking Solutions $4.89

Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt Soaking Solutions - Le Palais Hair Lounge

I’ll be honest. I didn’t appreciate the importance of a good bath until it was too late. I know some people think they’re gross and are totally against them. But I find nothing wrong with soaking up for a little while after a long day (or week). When I discovered Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt, I loved baths even more. They come in a bunch of scents; lavender is my favorite, and each formula addressed a different need. There’s eucalyptus for relief, lavender for sleep, ginger for detoxifying, milk and honey to nourish skin, and avocado for a super moisturizer. Not only are they great for aromatherapy, it relaxes sore muscles. So if you have a job where you’re on your feet all day like me, you’re going to thank me later for this one.

Play up Your Natural Beauty

Play Up Your Natural Beauty - Le Palais Hair Lounge

I know I’m not alone when I say that I feel sort of sluggish and less-pretty in the winter months. I’ve never been a big makeup wearer, and I always think it’s important to play on your natural beauty. I’ve decided to make this week’s blog on a couple of my favorite tricks on how to enhance the beauty we were already born with!!

1. Cheeks

Cheeks - Le Palais Hair Lounge

I’m 100% guilty of watching hours of YouTube channels on how to contour my face. No, I definitely don’t do this to myself every morning, but I’ve got to admit; it’s entertaining. I do, however, enjoy enhancing my big apple-y cheeks! Adding a little bit of pink blush right on the balls of the cheeks will really make your face pop! It mocks that gorgeous sun-kissed look we get every summer but would love to keep all year long.

2. Freckles

Freckles - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Ok, if you have freckles, you’re so lucky! Have you been seeing the latest freckle frenzy?! I mean, girls are actually using those washes away tattoos to pretend they have natural freckles!! Stop covering them up and start rocking those beauties! That’s the kind of natural beauty you can’t imitate!

3. Lips

Lips - Le Palais Hair Lounge

You know how that quote goes; happiest girls are the prettiest girls. So, smile girl!! Pick up some lipstick that compliments your skin tone and wears it! If you ask me, every girl should have her “everyday” lip color as well as a few fun ones for nights on the town! I’ve included a simple chart for you to determine the best lip color for you!!

4. Eyes

Eyes - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Break out those eyeshadow pallets and have a little fun! Don’t be so serious about picking colors, try anything you want!! I consider my signature look to be my top eyeliner. I feel naked without it! I wear it even when I have no other makeup on at all and when I’m feeling a little risqué, I’ll wing it out! It’s a fun way to switch up your look every once in a while.

5. Hair, duh!

Hair, duh! - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Of course, this is my favorite one of all, because it’s what we do!! Having a good, honest, open consultation with your hairstylist is the most important key. It may sound crazy to some of you, but hair is the perfect trick to hide what we don’t like or enhance what we do like! Don’t like your forehead? Try straight bangs! Feel like your face is too round? Try something to give the illusion of length like a bob!

Ideas for When the Winter Weather Keeps You Indoors

Ideas for When the Winter Weather Keeps You Indoors - Le Palais Hair Lounge

Unfortunately, with this time of year comes inclement weather. While we’ve been pretty lucky so far here in New Jersey, I’ve decided though to gather a couple of my favorite things to do on the days when the weather gets us stuck inside, just in case winter ever does decide to rear its ugly head!

1. Puzzle

Puzzle

Doing a puzzle really gets your mind working. Not only are they extremely relaxing, it’s also great to sit down and do a puzzle with people you love. You’ve got a big ole mug of hot cocoa, the whole table is cleared off, and there’s nothing but puzzle pieces from corner to corner. This is a great time to unwind and start opening up to one another. Start sharing stories and gossiping with one another, you’ll share a lot of good laughs and in the end, you’ve got a beautiful work of art that you can Modge Podge together, frame, and hang on the wall. Every time you look at it, you’ll reminisce on all the memories you had making it!

2. Hair Masque

Hair Masque - Le Palais Hair Lounge

You’re stuck inside, so now’s a good a time as any to finally apply that hair masque you’ve been meaning to try! You’ve got all day long, so be sure to crack open that jar and use it! Wetting your hair down first will allow the masque to penetrate deeper into your hair’s cuticle. Scoop some up in your hands, grab your hair like you’re about to put it in a ponytail and start by applying from midshaft to ends then work your way up into your roots. The longer you leave it on, the better!

3. Bake Cookies

Bake Cookies

Yum! I mean, who doesn’t love cookies? Forget New Year’s resolutions for a couple of hours and bake up some delicious homemade cookies! My all-time favorite is sugar cookies. The best part is you’ve got most of the ingredients already in your cabinet!

4. Nail Party

Nail Party

Grab your moms, sisters, daughters, and grandmothers and start painting away! Who cares about summer and winter color rules, grab those hot pink bottles and go crazy! I love mixing up my colors and my seasons. Nothing gets you in a better mood on a dreary rainy day than some beautiful red nail polish!

5. Reorganize Your Closet

Reorganize Your Closet

Oddly enough, this is one of my favorite things to do. Call me a weirdo but I have my closet color coordinated. I read this book once about keeping a positive mindset – they recommend to open up your closet, grab an article of clothing and ask yourself “does this bring me joy?” If the answer is no, if you even hesitate, get rid of it! There are so many people in need of our clothes and they’ll be very grateful to receive them! I like doing this a couple of times a year, not just because I’m a clean freak, but also to give back to people, it makes me feel good.

After a couple of these tips, you’ll realize what fun a snow day can really be!
